Description
Every
year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead
walk past. Blue never sees them – until this year, when a boy emerges from the
dark and speaks to her. His name is Gansey, a rich student at Aglionby, the
local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys.
Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble. But Blue is drawn to Gansey,
in a way she can't entirely explain. He is on a quest that has encompassed
three other Raven Boys: Adam, Ronan and Noah.
The
Characters
Blue is
the daughter of a psychic. Although she has no powers of her own, except
amplifying energy around her, she is witty and sassy. The relationship between
her and her mother is a very good and close one. She has never been in love. Her
father disappeared after she was born.
Gansey
is a rich brat, but a nice one. He is posh without noticing it, simply because
he grew up in very wealthy circumstances and doesn´t know life differently. He
is the glue that holds all of them together.
Adam is
a scholarship student who resents the privilege around him. He has an abusive father
and has to work to afford Aglionby. He falls for Blue.
Ronan is
the fierce soul whose emotions range from anger to despair. He is dark and mysterious,
and we don´t get to know much about him in this first book of the quadrology.
Noah observes
pretty much everything but says rather little. He is a sweet soul.
My
Opinion
I´ve
seen this book so often on BookTube and Bookstagram that I had to read it. To
be honest, I was sceptic at first, because this is not at all my genre. But I ended
up liking it. I´ve already ordered book number two as well and am really
looking forward to it!
The
characters are well drawn. We learn a few things about them but not too much,
which – considering that there are three more books to follow – is a good
thing.
The plot
twists were amazing! I couldn´t stop reading, and some parts left me breathless.
I really
liked this book although it still isn´t my favourite genre.
